Zinc Trimolybdate, ZnO.3MoO3.10H2O

Zinc Trimolybdate, ZnO.3MoO3.10H2O, may be prepared by boiling an aqueous suspension of zinc carbonate with excess of molybdic anhydride, filtering, and allowing to crystallise, or by evaporating a mixed solution of sodium tetramolybdate and zinc sulphate. The salt crystallises in needles which readily dissolve in hot water. On heating, the trimolybdate loses 4H2O at 120° C., and becomes anhydrous at 140° C.
